BK Precision 879B<\/a> Err E02 Repair (BK Precision 879B Data Sheet)<\/p>\n

While performing in-circuit ESR testing, I took a break for a cup of coffee. Upon returning to the project, I encountered an issue. As soon as I hooked it up, there was a sudden discharge, and I realized I had inadvertently taken out my LCR meter, the infamous BK Precision 879B displaying an Err E02. A quick Google search, including guidance from the EEVBlog and BK Precision’s page, suggested checking Fuse 200<\/a>. Fortunately, Fuse 200 was intact. The EEV Blog post further directed me to inspect the -5V rail, and sure enough, it was shorted. This LCR meter is made for BK Precision by Tonghui share similar hardware and Specs as the Tonghui TH2822A<\/a><\/p>\n

Err E02 this is what happens when you connect a cap that was not discharged.

\nNow the Quick Repair..<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Voltage Inverter U603 a TPS60400DBVT was the problem.
\n\"BK<\/a> \"\"<\/a>
\nI ordered some then I got distracted with other jobs not requiring the LCR Meter and I misplaced them so had to order more this time I got right to it so i would not misplace the small pack again. so now it was time\u00a0 Remove the TPS60400DBVT
\n\"BK<\/a><\/p>\n

Clean Up The Flux, and tin the small SOT23-5 pads of U603
\n\"BK<\/a>
\nInstalled New TPS60400DBVT in U603 Chewcked the -5V TPO and checked good no short.
\n\"BK<\/a>
\nInstall a fresh 9v and Power it on for a Function Check all Done. LCR Meter is Back to Working Order! Total time for fix about 10min waiting for parts 2 weeks.
\n\"BK<\/a>
\nNext weeks control boards that will be in will be a fast fix now the LCR is up and running will prob cut 3-4 days off my Repair Queue.<\/p>\n
