Alaska Right to Repair Died Today: How Close We Got and What\u2019s Next<\/b><\/p>\n

It\u2019s a heartbreaking day for consumer rights, independent repair shops, and everyday Alaskans. Today, May 20th, 2026, the legislative session officially came to an end and with it, Alaska\u2019s Right to Repair bill Senate Bill 111 (SB 111)<\/a> officially died.<\/p>\n

We were so<\/i> close. But in the final, chaotic hours of the session, the bill was choked out by legislative red tape.<\/p>\n

Here is exactly what happened, how the system worked against us, and where we go from here.<\/p>\n

The Journey: Almost Across the Finish Line<\/h3>\n

Alaska Senate Bill 111 (SB 111) was designed to do something simple but incredibly impactful: give everyday Alaskans the right to access the original parts, specialized tools, and diagnostic software needed to fix their electroncis. In a state as massive and remote as Alaska, being forced to ship a broken piece of equipment thousands of miles to an “authorized” dealer just for a minor digital fix isn’t just inconvenient it’s financially crippling or deadly!<\/p>\n

The bill was building serious momentum. It actually managed to pass the House<\/b>.<\/p>\n

As the clock struck midnight on May 20th and the session officially adjourned sine die<\/i>, SB 111 quietly expired on the vine.<\/p>\n
