Teardown and X/Ray of a Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle Pro Street Tuner 41000008C (This has been Sitting on my shelf for about a year now)
The Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle Pro Street Tuner (P/N 41000008C) is Harley’s factory-approved ECM tuning system for many EFI-equipped Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Unlike piggyback fuel controllers, it directly reprograms the motorcycle’s ECM (Engine Control Module) through the diagnostic port.
The HD tuner permanently marries itself to the first motorcycle VIN it flashes. It cannot be reset or transferred to another motorcycle. (So they Say we will Explore this a little further at a later date!)
Tuning is repair! Locking down or marring/pairing the tools to 1 specific motorcycle is how the manufactures try and extract more money from owners. Some people own many bikes one should not need to buy one for each bike that’s ridiculous.
What it Does
- Uploads Harley-approved performance calibrations.
- Supports Stage I, Stage II, and some more advanced Screamin’ Eagle performance upgrades.
- Allows adjustment of:
- Spark timing
- Volumetric efficiency (fueling)
- Throttle progressivity
- Provides diagnostic functions and trouble-code reading.
- Includes Smart Tune functionality to help optimize fueling.
The 41000008C version fits many pre-2023 Harley models, including:
- 2014–2022 Sportster (XL)
- 2007–2017 Dyna
- 2007–2022 Softail
- 2007–2022 Touring
- 2017–2022 Trike
- Certain XG models (Street 500/750)
How its Packaged.
X-ray In the Shell… Looking for Clips and Screws.
Teardown:
The Harley Davidson Tuner is Opened Up 2 Screws Under The Serial Number Sticker Need to Be Removed.

X-ray of the PCB Out of the Shell.
IC Chips.
Main MCU is a MC9S12DP512CPVE Chip Info Package is a LQFP112
This Chip is Supported By My Xeltek 7500 This chip may have the security enabled so it cannot be read. It requires a GX3026 adapter which i do not have if anyone wishes to buy one and send it to me I will remove the chip and attempt the read. I have the mega magic for the the Xeltek GX3026 Adapter Pinouts and could make an adapter when I find the time.
Sillabs CP2102 USB to UART bridge
Texas Instruments HB125 dual high-side driver
Bottom of the Board (P2 Appears to be an ISP Header for the Flash)
Adesto 45DB081E 8-Mbit Flash (This is Probably our main target for the Data We Seek to Backup)
NXP TJA1051 Can Transceiver
MC34064 undervoltage sensing circuit
My Xeltek 6100N Can Read and Program this Device Requires Xeltek DX4005 Adapter Since I have a mega magic I can use a Standard DFN Adapter I have one in a drawer someplace I looked but I do not have one for this package i have an 8X6 not a 5X6.
Please See Notes on Read-Lockdown. If anyone wishes to have HKLRF drop ship or send in a DX4005 or a I will be happy to attempt the backup. P2 Appears to be an ISP Header for this device the ELNEC Beeprog 2 (Dataman 48pro2) Support this device but they require credits to use the ISP function.
I could prob use other ISP device programmer I will look in to it when i get the time. I prefer to use the professional programmers I have with known algorithms and proper voltage control vs somthign mickey mouse.
As Time and Funds Allows I will Explore this a Little bit more…. maybe attempt back up the firmware etc see if there is a way of fixing it.
