I have had this Meiji Techno EMZ-8TR Microscope for about 8 months now the Microscope Body is Built like a tank and the optics are exceptionally crystal clear everything is butter smooth should last decades. The adopter adjustments one on each eye the controls are smooth, large knobs and very sensitive witch is good and and do not come out of adjustment. This microscope is metal and sealed much better as to a lot of other microscopes so the smoke from the flux will not make it in to it and contaminate the internal optics/mirrors/prisms as easy. If not using a Barlow lens get a M50 X 0.75 clear filter or your optics will be exposed.

Eyepieces:
Eye Pieces are Meiji Techno MA502 Super Widefield Eyepiece 10X These look well built they are non standard 30.5mm they do not make high eyepoint in the 30.5mm eye pieces 🙁

Auxiliary Lens:
The auxiliary Lens Threads are M50 X 0.75 You can get a Reducer Rig to got to M48 to use standard Auxiliary Barlow Lenses.

I initially I used a 3D Printed Adapter for the Aux Lens as it was a bit difficult to locate a M50 X 0.75 to M48 Adapter and get it quickly.

I was able to locate a source for the M50 X 0.75 to M48 X 0.75 Adapters.


I Tried a Generic M50 X 0.75 threaded 0.5X Auxiliary Barlow Lens but it must be marked wrong as the working distance was that of a 0.35X a Working Distance of 240mm

The working distance was About 9.5″ or 240MM Which is way to much but will have it’s use on cretin tasks so not a waste. This must be equivalent to a Meiji Techno MA796

With the standard off the shelf 48mm 0.5X and 0.7X Barlow the Working Distances are Correct.

Wish list Meiji Techno MA794 0.5X Aux Barlow to Try See if any better at the edge blur, I Really don’t want to spend $190 on one because solder splatter gets on the lens there is no way to add a protective clear lens to the Meiji Techno. So the $15-$25 ones from amazon get used they are disposable when they get solder splatter and scratches. It looks like the Meiji lens’s are held in with spanner type retainer rings so one could prob insert a clear protective lens maybe.

I also have a Meiji Techno MA795 Auxiliary Lens 1.5X Lens working distance is about 57mm or about 2.25″ great for Inspecting small things.

The Light… I am using the Paul Daniels PLD Advanced Ultra-CRI Microscope Ring Light, This light is Very Bright and Flicker Free ad Mounts at theh right angle can read text on chips a bit easier etc. I recommend this light.

Experimenting… So far I have found the SVBONY SV128 it is a 2″ filter used for astronomy but its only $25.00

The Bad!!

Camera:
I am Experimenting with Different Camera Setups… 100% Avoid the Meiji Techno HD2600T once again a rebadged Tucsen Michrome 6 camera that a lot of companies use the Tucsen and put their name on them and their inflated price tag too! They don’t even bother to change the USB Device Descriptor they all pop up as Michrome 6. The Tucsen TUCamera and Directshow Drivers are broken They Lock up OBS Studio Meiji and Tusen will not fix otherwise it would be an acceptable 4k camera at 30FPS or less. I have other cameras that use similar direct show and they work great with OBS studio no lockups. But there are others that use modern 4k sensors that produce actual 60FPS and don’t require proprietary drivers. ELP, Bresun 4K Max, Using the Sony IMX678 Sensors at a Fraction of the Cost.

After Sales Support:

Meiji Techno America “USA” After Sale Support is Horrible (You Are On Your Own for Accessory Configs No Help form them) Pre-Sale Meiji America told me that all parts would be available if ever needed. When I got my EMZ-8TR “as an experiment I tried to get a simple part” it did not go well.. So If It breaks and is not covered under warranty good luck finding service or simple parts.

It was really One of them situations they said we need a part number. I asked, Can I get a parts diagram or list their reply sorry that is proprietary and confidential we cannot provide that contact a retailer, so I did they had no clue how to get one either LOL. Yes, Then How the “F” am I to get them a part number!

Not everyone knows the part name and different manufactures call their parts different names sometimes photos are not available because part is missing etc.

No preventive maintenance Service info lube etc nope nada.

After some pressure, Meiji Techno Japan did provide an exploded View of the EMZ-8TR Trinocular Area and a EMZ-5TR Head but it is missing most the parts list said they don’t want the 8TR Head Exploded Parts View to be seen by competitor? so only sent the 5TR WTF? Really! Meiji Japan said they share most the same parts.

All a competitor needs to do is obtain a device and take one apart. (I am posting the info I received here for archiving. May this help someone looking at Meiji Techno see their design and build quality for informed purchasing or get that repair part number they need maybe.)

Meiji Techno EMZ-5 Body Exploded Parts Diagram (I was told by a Dealer the EMZ-5 parts are the same for the EMZ-8TR) Would still be nice to have the complete parts list to get proper names part names etc.

Eye Pieces:

There is No Set Screw For Eye Pieces They Can Slip Out Very Easy and Rotate when using eye guards requiring constant fiddling. I use tape to secure and fix them

Photoport pieces are sloppy as hell.. Requires shim to get the proper alignment or ya get sever vignetting on one side seems a .08mm to .1mm thick completely around the objective where the c-mount slips over is proper aligns everything up properly.

Photo port Focus is PITA having to use the threaded tube This is especially a PITA if your PC is not close by. Most other microscopes use a Focusing Helicoid Meiji uses threads wondering if anyone has Adapt one Focusing Helicoid the EMZ-8TR?

I am thinking of buying a spare photo tube for my 2nd camera.

(100) The end slip in the block (Holder For TV) is called a Joint on the parts Diagram it is 26mm OD X 11mm in length Threaded Internally 19mm X 0.50 it Steps up to 30mm OD after the set screw groves which is 4mm deep I did not pull the angle.

Over All Length is 43.5mm

The 30mm Diamater Section is 35.5mm

(110) Photo Tube The threads are M26 X 0.50 Very Fine Pitch. Using a thread pitch gauge I confirmed the threads. I I just Made the secret known.

The Rest the tube 25mm OD the ID is 23mm The overall length is 72.5mm

The objective slips over it this is where the slop is introduced. Example MA151/35/05 Mostly at the (C Mount) The Silver Part (240)

When ya need to adapt a camera Meiji America, They just said buy the adapter from the retailer and try it. Well problem with that is Most these parts are special order and nonrefundable or they are refundable with steep shipping costs, no refund of the tariff surcharges, and restocking fees. The price can add up very quickly for something that may not work. The retailers also just go off the Meiji website themselves so they have the same info you have.

I have 3 of these C mount Adapters a 0.3X 0.5X and 1X Photo of 2 the 0.5X is being used currently I took them out of their little holeders which at 23mm ID on one the the objective fit in and 25 mm ID on the other end that slips over the photo tube.

Here are some x-rays of the Photo port mounts i have they are 23mm diameter that fit in the tube and 25mm that the part Number 24o the C-mout adapter fits on these parts are a bit thinker and push the limits of my X-ray Machine I can get better images just have to adjust the settings a bit.

Did I mention no human support for photo port accessories and their camera / sensor size list is very very outdated! If you ask for specific and details the standard reply that info is proprietary and confidential e-mails to japan go unanswered.Has anyone made or put together custom photo port for their Meiji?I did  find a reiddit post a guy used off the shelf parts to mount a SLR Camera his setup looks a way more robust and has a Focusing Helicoid Ring.

I really like this microscope optics and how well built it is.. it don’t feel like a toy like the plastic housing units. But with my aging eyes Maybe I should have went with a EMZ-8TRH it has 30mm eyepieces so there could be some High eye point options. But little a late now. The off the shelf 30mm eyepieces almost work but sit a few mm to high with diopter adjustments bottomed out they almost work I was thinking of having a machinist turn me some off the shelf ones down a few mm at the seat or make custom eye piece objective holders but need to learn optics length etc.

If Meiji Techno made parts available “accidents can and will happen”,  Make a more precision fit on their photo port / c-mount, and some high eye point 10X eyepieces then this would be the perfect microscope. I may still buy a EMZ-8TRH and try it but that’s almost $2,500 with a set of 10X Eye Pieces and 0.6X Camera Adapter.

At the price of these microscopes and their accessories one would expect precision fit on the parts. and as said earlier most are non returnable or hefty restocking fees.

Prices just for the Head No Eye Pieces or Camera Port Mounts Adds Up Quick.

Meiji’s Reply Confirms this blog post. A parts diagram is not the same as a technical drawing which I am not asking for.  are theiy hiding something the reason why they don’t want to make it available? Possibly infringing on others patents? Meiji Techno still avoids the non precision fit of the camera port parts question.

September 10th 2026 Another Reply Same BS From Meiji Techno America.. “That Info is Proprietary and Confidential Information!” LOL they don’t seem to understand that I own the dam thing I could just take it apart and post a photo of every part hell I could hire someone into 3d modeling and have them draw up every single part.
