Data IO Unisite Expansion Ram Board 701-2114-001 Getting it to Work.
I bought a 2nd Data I/O Unisite (this one had a memory board) I am still seeking another but not going to pay much $30-$40 + Ship.
Data I/O Corp. “Expansion RAM BD.” (P/N 701-2114-001, copyright 1986). Date codes on the chips run from late 1985 to mid-1987 (8702 to 8726), so it was built around mid-1987. It’s a DRAM expansion card for one of the Unisite Universal Programmer with a 6800 Dip CPU Board Number 701-2012-007 & 701-2012-008 there was a later revision board with a 2 30pin Sim Slots on the board this will not work on that board.

Sept 16th I have tried the pal/gal chips that are archived the ones I could find for U91 and U92 to be able to add sims to this board I have not been successful.
When plugged the unisite only reports 512kb user memory 384 KB on this board and 128kb on the Data I/O Unisite Main Board.
I have tried 2X 256K and 1 Meg 30 pin simm’s in pairs in different configurations to a full boat with no luck. If anyone has the pal/gal jed file for a larger set amount of ram 1mb or more let me know. If I Try Version 1.3 Firmware it reports 0kb User Ram??
I may not have the right memory but Thats 8 1meg 9 Chip Parity Simms.
Sadly changing simm’s around I had a SIMM Socket Latch Casualty. This is 40 years old hardware and has very brittle plastic. Always scary flexing them to release the module. Even with being carefull it happens. I will replace the simm sockets with new 30pin simm sockets with metal latches if i decide to keep the board.
I need to verify pin spacing between sims and banks of the molex 78818 dual simm socket if i can find a Data Sheet (The physical measurements is 12.7mm betweent the 2 SIMMS’s so the one in the link should work) to the modern ones available.

September 20th I Ended up having to Update the U10 and U26 Pal Chips the memory board. I did some searching and obtained Unisite 8MB U10 and U26 Files for the Memory Expansion Board to allow it to go to 8MB The files had no chip numbers but when the Jed is opened in the BPM Microsystems BPwin software or with notepad it will tell you some info they were a GAL16V8 i am n ot sure why people dont incluide the device in the file name to make it easy. Note: Updating these programmable logic chips requires V1.3 Eproms I also used the MSM Pals for U91 and U92 In this Archive Data IO Unisite Firmware Archive V1.3 U10 U16 U91 U92
U10 I used a GAL16V8
U26 I used a GAL22V10
Updating U10 and U26 was a success.. 8MB of Ram.. or Close to it not sure if it supposed to read 8192 or if i have a bad chip on the ram. I have a ramcheck 30 & 72pin simm adapter inbound to test the 30pin and 72pin simms I have prob the next unboxing.
A Note on the memory.. You can also use 4 MB You will need to place them in Bank 1 and 3
I Booted to Ver 9.5 Software from the flash floppy system Updated to V9.5
Here is it fully booted with V9.5 and 4MB Ram
Checked it on Unisite PL2260+ V1.6.0 Software and It Detected it as a Unisite
I tried out the new Unisite PL2260+ Self Test Feature on the Unisite it seems to function well. I only have 12 Pin Drivers for 48 Pin Sockets. Once i get this unisite up to being ready for service I will do a in depth post and video on this wonderful software.
Flash floppy don’t work so well changing disks, I think it’s a setting I will have to experiment
